Non Stop Film Festival Blog

Newmexico

Filmfestivals.com contributor, local reporter and occasional blogger Gene Grant (www.genegrant.com/blog) announced his intentions to watch the entirety of the "New Mexico Filmmakers' Week," at the Guild Cinema, 3405 Central Ave. in Nob Hill, from Friday, June 24th to Thursday, June 30th, front to back.

The event is presented by the New Mexico Film Office (www.nmfilm.com) and will feature 47 hours of both shorts and features. All the films are made by New Mexicans and the event is free.

"This is going to be a stout test of will and my love of indie film, but the opportunity is too good to miss? Grant said. "The blog will be a document of the most comprehensive unfolding of New Mexico independent filmmaking to date. There will be real time reviews, some observational musing, and an occasional cry for help, I'm sure. Wish me luck."

Thecarlton_1 The aim of the Marché du Film is to encourage global film and to help develop ideas withing the industry.  The Marché du Film in Cannes has overcome the physical boundaries that the Palais has to offer and one can now find booths in one of the main hotels in Cannes:  The Majestic, The Noga Hilton, The Carlton, The Martinez...  Companies rent out rooms and suites in these hotels and convert them into business offices where they welcome their customers.

Films on the Marche

Simone_tamer_me_s As I was walking through the Marche du FIlm, I decided to stop in on Forbidden Fruits directed by Marc Cayce, a movie about race relations in America. I had the opportunity to meet Cayce and one of the films stars Tamer Werfalli. The film turned out to be a really good film that definitely has promise to any buyer who wants to make some money in the American film industry. The movie sends a clear message to the minority community that segregation is not correct in any sense. Hopefully, we will get to see this film in theatres soon.

Walking in the Market

Marche_s When I woke up this morning, I realized that I had not had the chance to properly evaluate the Marche du Film, so I took an early morning stroll to see what I could find. The Marche du Film at the Cannes Film Festival is the biggest in the world. With hundreds of films on the market, the Marche has the best current cinema throughout the world and is the best international forum. This year, there are 8,814 participants from 74 countries and 1,450 buyers. During the Festival, the Marche will have 1,432 screenings and 545 of them will be world premieres. More information about the Marche can be found at their official website www.cannesmarket.com  which I also used for some of the information contained in this piece.
