Creating your own Television via RSS 2.0 on filmfestivalstv.com

Filmfestivalstv.com is comited to help you create your own TV channels. In order to do this, we will present here the basics.
A Videocast is a recorded audio-video distributed via RSS (Really Simple Syndication). Videocast is a popular way for companies to find an audience that would be too expensive or technically complicated to reach using traditional broadcast media.

When a blog contains rich media as audio or video, RSS 2.0 allows to automaticaly download  the media on the hard disk of the user. To do this, RSS needs special enclosures to be included in the url. To build the RSS 2.0 feed, filmfestivalstv has suscribed to feedburner smartcast service which converts standart source feed into RSS 2.0 format with appropriate enclosures elements.

The RSS feed will be available at http://www.feedburner.com. This conversion produces the feed and its rich media content, automatically available for dowload to people using the following aggregators: Aggregators are computer-based software or web-based software:

For windows XP:

Doppler Radio: Doppler Radio allows to download audio and video files from the feed automatically and integrates the windows media player. You may download Doppler at this url (http://www.dopplerradio.net/download.php). To use Doppler you must also install the windows Framework .NET.

ANT (http://www.antisnottv.net) ANT has just released the windows version.

For Mac OS X:

ANT (http://www.antisnottv.net)

Web-based aggegators :

Mediatuner  (http://www.mediatuner.com)
Mefeedia (http://www.mefeedia.com) We are still working on testing to provide you the best usability to build your personnal Festival TV channel.

Enjoy.

Ok, what is this videoblog?

Red_carpet_installation_sI started Filmfestivals.com here in Cannes in 1995 by creating the first official web site of the Cannes Film Festival. Since then, we have build, with Bruno who joined me as co-founder of the company, the leading media covering movie events worldwide.
During the dot com storm of 2000, as many others, we raised money, opened offices around the world and launched the first interactive movie theatre on Internet. Ok, there were no clients around, it was 5 years to early at least, but an innovative experience for sure. Unlike many of our friends, we survived with a mixture of event organisation during Festivals, content syndication and online advertising.

Wanting to look ahead to the future of all this, I researched, discussed and wrote a book 2010 Future Virtual (in French) where I describe two important trends: innovation acceleration and growth of our uses of virtual environment.
So, here we keep innovating with this videoblog, creating a new way to cover a Festival and above all a new way to build the TV of tomorrow.

I understand this is a long post by blog standards but it’s reading is not mandatory :)

How are we doing it?
Posting will mix what I would call the “pro” coverage by Bruno, invited journalists and Malo (myself), plus an “alternative” coverage by younger, self tought, blogers bringing a fresh view of this amazing circus.

To do all this, we rely on many partners, among them:
Blog design: blogperformance.com
Video technologies: Skema

Why does it prepare the TV of tomorrow?
For many of you who already understand rss syndication, podcasting… skip the next part, for others, here are a few explanations. RSS stands, among other things, for Really Simple Syndication. This is a format that allows you to subscribe to various news sources and to create your own news agency, customized to your needs, professional interests or hobbies… It started (I should rather say: it exploded) with text, then audio with podcasting and now, video is coming, helping build new TV channels.

Enjoy our TV, it really starts tomorrow.
