EK AJNABEE to be screened at Bangkok Film Fest!

It may be a bit too late in the day but G S Entertainments’ EK AJNABEE, is getting its share of international acclaim over the world. A week after the film’s screenplay was selected for the Academy of Motion Pictures library; the film has been invited for screening at the Bangkok International Film festival, which began on February 17.  The film will have two screenings on February 18 and 21 and will be in the top league of films like GOOD NIGHT, GOOD LUCK, which recently won an academy award nomination. “It is a feather in the cap for Indian cinema. We are definitely excited and are looking forward to it. In fact we are now working on reaching out to other festivals,” says producer, Jaspreet Singh Walia.

According to Walia, the film had been invited for at least two festivals prior to its release, the Dubai International Film Festival and the Melbourne Film Festival. However they chose not to go ahead with the screenings to safeguard the interests of the film.  “We were reluctant due to the rampant piracy prevalent at that point of time. We decided not to take any chances,” he reveals.

He also disagrees that it is late in the day for the film to get its due share of recognition  “Our main purpose to make the rounds of festival circuit at this stage is to make the world aware of the kind of films that we are making. We are looking at it to establish the right network for all future projects that we will be making. Most filmmakers who enter their films for the festivals prior to their release also do it with the intention of selling it in the world distribution market. In our case, we had no such problem, knowing that it was a great product with a superlative performance by Mr. Bachchan,” he says.

Both Walia and director, Apoorva Lakhia, are also excited about the fact that the film’s screenplay has been selected for the Oscar library. “It is like an icing on the cake after the excellent feedback we got for the film there. Moreover the media made such a big issue about the film being inspired from MAN ON FIRE but the original film is nowhere in the Oscar library,” Lakhia smiles

How has Amitabh Bachchan reacted to the news? “He was among the first few callers to congratulate me after hearing of it. He asked me to clarify what it entailed for a film-maker for his screenplay to be selected for the Oscar library and I explained it to him,” Lakhia reveals. Meanwhile Lakhia is now readying to fly to Bangkok with producer Jaspreet Singh Walia and Arjun Rampal for the high profile screening of the film.
